Engage, Educate, entertain your audience

6 years old. Studying in Grade 1. I was asked to participate in a ‘Speech’ competition.  As it usually happens with kids of that age, I just had to memorize the script that my father wrote and recite it with minimum possible errors. 

Those days, my father was posted in North India while we were living down south. He had promised to send me the script. Just one day remained before the competition. I was about to give up hopes when I heard the ring of the postman’s cycle bell. I rushed outside and he handed me the sky blue colored inland letter. 

I hastily and happily opened the letter and saw the script, very neatly handwritten by my father and then stayed awake late into that night, memorizing the script. I barely understood the content there, but I was glad that the audience did, and so that day, I won that contest. 

Ever since then, I have loved my audiences and enjoyed connecting with them. 

(I remember this story from my Grade 1 not because I have a phenomenal memory but because, my parents, like most parents, have repeated this ad-nauseum.)
